Socratic Discussions over books about being gifted - my personal favorite!
Choose a book. My recommendation for this grade level is Mindset or Conquering Negative Thinking for Teens.
Learn about the Socratic process and the lessons you will cover before discussion.

Adolescent Brain Unit - A wonderful unit that covers brain development, the hemispheres of the brain, the teenage brain, moral decision making, and ends with a choice of projects to apply learning. Typically takes 6-8 sessions. Thanks to Jeanne Pascon for her help with this unit. It will also be available in Renzulli Learning!

Overcoming Obstacles - Probably one of the most comprehensive and quality curriculums that you can find for free. Spans grades K-12.

Jacob's Ladder is a reading program that is great for gifted students, and they now have affective units that hit social and emotional standards, as well as ELA!
Boost Emotional Intelligence in Students - 30 Flexible Research-Based Activities to Build EQ Skills (Grades 5–9): This has been a great resource for students and covers good topics in an accessible way. 30 lessons, each about 30 minutes.
Conquering Negative Thinking for Teens - I love to let students choose social and emotional topics that interest them, and this is one way to do that. Students can pick which thinking styles most fit them, then complete the work for that style. I've created a slideshow with how I utilize this book with students.
